Pays obeisance to an elderly woman waiting on the road to
get a glimpse of him
Sinnathai, an elderly woman of Savuriyur village in Aavadathur
panchayat, would have never imagined that she will be on television and social
media on Saturday.
She was one of the large number of women and men waiting by
the roadside near the new primary health centre premises to get a glimpse of
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who was visiting Savuriyur to declare
open a building for the primary health centre.
The Chief Minister, while walking back to his vehicle after
the event, spotted Ms. Sinnathai in the crowd of women, and then the
unthinkable happened. He quickly bowed to touch her feet and sought her
blessings, leaving everyone in the crowd surprised, including officials and
police personnel.
Ms. Sinnathai tried to hold the Chief Minister’s hands, but
he completed paying obeisance to her. She instantly reciprocated the gesture.
Mr. Palaniswami did not stop with this. He fetched a shawl
from the officials, adorned her and posed for a picture with her.
The photograph and the video of the Chief Minister touching
the feet of Ms. Sinnathai went viral on social media and his gesture came in
for praise from all quarters.
